Trip to Morocco
September 21st, 2018
This photo is taken in Fez, Morocco. In September 2018 I went to Morocco with Hania and Wojtek to visit Marrakech, Essaouira and Fez. My only previous experience of Morocco was a brief visit to the northern port town of Tanger. My impression of Morocco was thus one of busy streets with lots of local business people trying to catch the attention of tourists who flock in from Spain. Marrakech certainly lived up to this expectation, as did Fez. Essaouira was much more relaxed however and I felt like I could of stayed there for a couple of weeks.
It was the first time for Hania and Wojtek travelling outside of Europe so it was very interesting to hear their reflections on the experience. It is in many ways a very under developed country, but not in comparison to its neighbours. I think that with cheap flights coming from Ryanair into the country in the last few years, Morocco’s tourism industry will start to boom even more. Whether this is good for the local people or not, it is hard to tell.
We met with Maia, also a student at St. John’s and a friend of me and Hania, who was doing a French course for two weeks in Rabat. It was fascinating to hear her reflections of staying with a Muslim family during her course.
